The Power of Affirmations

Affirmations are positive phrases of what you would like to be or like to have in life. They keep your mind focused on the end goal you desire to reach. They help you to overcome obstacles and doubts that distract you from your goals such as fear, negativity, false reality appearing real, misconceptions, and old thoughts and beliefs that can easily derail you from becoming and doing what you want in life.

It’s like the childhood story of The Little Engine That Could. To give her strength to conquer the mountain she repeated the affirmation “I think I can” “I think I can” over and over until she made it over the mountain.

To create an affirmation, write down what you would like to have or be. Then add “I am” or “I have” before your desire. Such as “I am happy” or “I have a loving relationship”.

For those goals that seem very hard to reach add a transition statement such as “I am in the process of” or “I am starting to”. Such as “I am in the process of being happy” or “I am starting to have a loving relationship”. This is a true statement for you since that is the direction you are heading.

Repeating affirmations keep you focused in the direction you want for yourself and your life. Like The Little Engine That Could soon you will be saying, “I knew I could.” “I knew I could.”

I am a firm believer of positive affirmations. Everyday at work I start off telling everyone good morning and if they’re ready to have a great day today! Said with a smile and sincerity it does start the day off right and shifts everyone into a positive frame of mind. The office is more cheerful and the day usually does turn out to be a great one.

I’ve heard of affirmations, but have yet to really implement them. It’s such a simple habit to form.

I am good with visuals (i.e., keeping visuals around that help keep track of my goals), so if I had affirmations I can be super woman! 🙂

Thanks for the reminder and inspiration!

      Jennifer,

When you look at your visuals say a positive statement about having those items in your life now. There you go, you just added affirmations to your visuals. 🙂

There’s a story of a poor man who would walk around rich neighborhoods and look at their fine homes and cars and declare with delight “that’s for me” “that’s for me” as a way of affirming and visualizing to himself that someday he would have fine property too. Affirmations are simply positive self-talk, declaring what you would like to have or be as already being your reality. Believing what you want in present time helps trigger the actions to make it an actual reality.

      Mike,

Turning off the news is a wonderful resolution for creating more peace and positivity in your life. 🙂

I like to start my day with Louise Hay’s affirmation CD “101 Power Thoughts”. Affirmations are a great way to set a positive tone for your day.

      Keep up the good work!

      Carolyn
